friendships and bicycles

last weekend calvary heidelberg had a family church retreat with another calvary nearby. we stayed in a cloister-turned-retreat-center that was located in a freshly-harvested area of farmland about 30 minutes from heidelberg. it was cold, but we had beautiful weather and fellowship. the speaker for the weekend focused on jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord - leaving with a handicap, a new name, and a blessing. it was clear that everyone was moved by the sermons and the Lord was doing deep things in people.

we also had free time with walks in the woods, sports, games, coffee & cake (kaffee und kuchen - very german.. and delicious). it was such a sweet time for both of us.. we got to meet more people from the church and get closer with the people that we already knew. we also got to practice a lot of german!
unfortunately, we don't have pictures.. i left the camera's memory card at home on accident..

but! we do have pictures of the new bicycle that a friend gave michael on thursday. it was such an amazing surprise and blessing. it's a legit bike too -- michael loves it and has been so excited to ride it around. having a bike is pretty much essential to european life & as they are pretty expensive, we are thanking the Lord for such a blessing.
